Services - Hazardous Waste

hazardous waste processing plant
Situated close to Glasgow, easily accessed from the M8, the Hitech facility has been designed for the collection, treatment and disposal of oily wastes, from a variety of sources.

Hitech's plant, located at our Paisley depot, handles hazardous and non-hazardous sludge and slurry wastes. The plant's main utilisation is the treatment of tank bottom waste, interceptor sludges and such like. Specifically designed to deal with refinery wastes, the plant can also be altered accordingly to match many different waste sludges.

Hitech can accept this type of waste in drums, IBCs, bulk tanker, tipper and skip lorries. Hitech's fleet of specialist vehicles can be used to transport this waste or alternatively we are delighted to welcome third party transport companies to the site.

On arrival at our IS014001 accredited site, all waste is sampled to ensure it matches the expected stream. This procedure must be accurate and is imperative to ensure not only legislative compliance but also to allow the plant to be set according to the waste it is to receive and treat.

Once accepted, the waste is deposited into underground processing chambers. Tipping facilities offer quick turnaround for contractors and, being entirely contained processes, comply with best practice guidelines.

The waste is then processed in the HSPU (High Solids Processing Unit) section of the system, at which point solids are segregated and treated. Chemical, physical and thermal processes are undertaken in this section to allow a consistent stream of waste to be forwarded to the next stage of the process.

The liquid phase of the sludge is further treated by chemical and physical means to split out water and any oil for recycling. The solid phase drops into a container for off site disposal. The final solid content of sludge being processed clearly is dependant on its own particular solid percentage but on average the treatment plant returns a mere 20% solid parts for landfill. In other words, of 1000kg of sludge going into the plant, only 200kg is being sent to landfill for final disposal.

In terms of new legislative requirements, our plant already exceeds requirements although we are continually striving to improve and add to the available technology for the treatment of this type of waste.

Waste Acceptance Criteria

Detailed leachate analysis has consistently proven that the treatment is successfully bringing contaminant levels down to below WAC levels for relevant disposal routes.

Hitech are constantly striving to offer the best available techniques for waste treatment. Our facility is open to other waste contractors and we offer flexible opening hours and quick turnaround times for tipping to all clients.
